The performance- and video based work Documentary Drag (2015) can be described as a non-existing fictional documentary film that follows several characters created, directed and portraied by Johan Lundin and Rasmus Raphaëlle Östebro. The project raises questions about how the visibility of fiction in identity construction and documentary material can be further understood by relating to the model of fiction that drag offers. The script, written by Lundin and Östebro is heavely influenced by citations by Judith Butler, Renate Lorenz and Susan Sontag.
"I think of drag as some sort of conscious, unconscious and exaggerated model of acting. A form of spectacle where the mimetic gesture, which sometimes is parodying, also the visual transformation and the fusion between the character and the subject generates some kind of transparency in the fictional layers. One could say that drag combines the fictional with the documentary and creates a platform between these two realities, where the perceived might seem a little ambiguous."
